Abramson (Norman) is born in Boston.

The son of Eastern European immigrants, Norman Abramson grows up in Dorchester, attends Boston Latin School and English High School, receives degrees from Harvard College, UCLA, Stanford, and becomes an electrical engineer. He marries Harriet Schanon and, begins teaching at the University of Hawaii in 1966 and develops a wireless network in 1971.* Called the “Father of Wireless Networking,” he never sought patents for his work, explaining, “I was too busy surfing to worry about that sort of thing.” Abramson dies on December 1, 2020, in San Francisco.
