756 Tremont Street is built.

1900

In Henry James’ 1886 novel The Bostonians, the character of Miss Birdseye lives in a rooming house identified only as “756” that is described as “A common residence of several persons, among whom there prevailed much vagueness of boundary.” South End historian Paul Wright subsequently suggests the address might be 756 Tremont Street.
