Boston Planning Department is reestablished.
April 2, 2024
Approved by the Boston City Council, Mayor Michelle Wu signs the ordinance recreating the agency in front of 42 Lomasney Way (sometimes described as “The Last Tenement in the West End”). The new ordinance transfers the planning and zoning, development review, urban design, and real estate functions from the Boston Planning and Development Agency to the new city department. The action is an attempt to provide more citizen input and accountability into the planning process and reverses the move of the Boston Planning Board’s functions to the former Boston Redevelopment Authority in 1960.
