City Councilors Michelle Wu and Anissa Essaibi George are the top finishers in the preliminary election for mayor.

Wu, with 36,060, and Essaibi George, 24,268, finish ahead of City Councilor Andrea Campbell, 21,299, acting Mayor Kim Janey, 21,047, and John Barros, 3,459. For the first time in Boston, all the major candidates are people of color and Wu is the first Asian-American to qualify for the general election. Turnout is some 108,731, 24.8% of registered voters.
