Vertex Pharmaceuticals pledges $500 million to Boston charities, educational, and health programs.

One of the largest corporate gifts in the city’s history, the funds are to be expended over the next 10 years for youth centers, workforce training, and to make the company’s drugs more affordable to local residents.
