Everett site is awarded the eastern Massachusetts casino license.

Meeting at the Boston Teachers Union Hall, the Massachusetts Gambling Commission votes to award the license to Wynn Resorts by a 3 to 1 margin. The bid tops one submitted by Mohegan Sun for a site in Revere that borders East Boston. Afterwards, a jubilant Everett mayor Carlo deMaria exclaims, “You won’t recognize the city of Everett, hopefully, in 10 years. We will no longer be the butt end of the city of Boston, we will be the front end of the city of Everett.”
