Meb Keflezighi of the U.S. (2:08:37) and Rita Jeptoo of Kenya (2:18:57) are the winners of the Boston Marathon.
April 21, 2014
Keflezighi, a 38-year-old Eritrean immigrant, becomes the first American men’s winner of the race since 1983 and the oldest men’s winner since 1931. Jeptoo is subsequently disqualified after testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs and Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia is declared the women’s winner with a course record time of 2:19:59. Some 36,000 runners participate in the race, including many who were unable to finish the year before due to the Boston Marathon Bombings, and more than one million spectators line the route.
