Boston Marathon Bombings occur.

Shortly after 2 p.m., two “pressure cooker” bombs explode near the finish line of the race at 671 Boylston Street and 755 Boylston Street Three people are killed (Krystle Campbell, 29, originally from Medford; Lingzi Lu, 23, from China and a graduate student at Boston University; and Martin Richard, 8, of Dorchester) and more than 260 others are injured. The race is stopped with some 4,500 runners still on the course, and law enforcement officers conduct what is described as the largest manhunt in New England history over the next few days.*
