Conservatory Lab Charter School opens.

It is located 2120 Dorchester Avenue. The school’s purpose is to “provide an opportunity for inner city school children to achieve the highest standards of academic achievement in the context of continuous and comprehensive study of music.” It becomes the first elementary school in the U.S. to fully integrate the Venezuelan-based “El Sistema” music program in 2010. The school subsequently expands from a student body of 169 students in one location to 444 students when it opens a primary School on Hancock Street.
