Roxbury International Film Festival is first held.
1999
Originally the Dudley Film Festival, it is founded by Lisa Simmons, Michal Trent, and Candelaria Silva Collins. The first film to screen is Squeeze, directed by Roxbury native Robert Patton-Spruill. The event’s purpose is to showcase films by and about people of color. The annual event grows dramatically and is now held in venues throughout Roxbury and adjacent neighborhoods.
