Wessmann v. Boston School Committee decision changes the Boston Latin School admission policy.
November 19, 1998
U.S. Court of Appeals Justice Joseph Tauro overturns a U.S. District Court ruling of May 1998 and finds that Sarah Wessmann, a white, 15-year-old- was wrongly denied admission to the school as a result of its use of a “half and half” policy, under which half of the entering class is admitted solely based on test scores and grades and the other half based on the racial breakdown of all qualified applicants.
