James “Whitey” Bulger becomes a fugitive.

December 23, 1994

The alleged gangster is tipped off by Kevin Weeks that he is about to be indicted at a meeting in the Nieman Marcus Store. (Weeks had been given the news by FBI agent John Connolly an hour earlier when the two met in the beer cooler at the Old Colony Liquor Mart.) Bulger immediately flees Boston, returning a month later to drop off one longtime girlfriend and pick up another, then remains at large until 2011.*
