Boston Chicken first restaurant opens in Newton.

(Dec.) Operated by Arthur Cores and Steven Kolow, the company soon opens additional restaurants in Brookline and Cambridge. After investor George Naddaff joins the company, it goes public in 1993, expands to more than 300 restaurants and changes it name to Boston Market. The company is purchased by McDonald’s Corp. in 2000, then by Sun Capital Partners, and currently has more than 500 locations across the U.S.
