Cracks begin to appear in the walls of houses on the west side of Brimmer Street.

The cracks are the result of rot in the wood pilings upon which the foundations of the houses are built resulting from the falling groundwater table. The foundation of all 19 houses are subsequently reinforced at a cost of up to $300,000 for each building.
