Doris Bunte is appointed Boston Housing Authority administrator.

The first former public housing tenant and first African-American woman to head a public housing agency in a major city in the U.S., Bunte is appointed to the post by Mayor Ray Flynn eight days after the BHA is released from the court receivership first imposed by judge Paul Garrity in 1979.
