Channel nightclub opens.
May 30, 1980
Originally Channel 1, it is located in the former Mad Hatter discothèque at 25 Necco Street. Operated by Harry Boras and Joe Cicerone, the club can accommodate some 1,500 patrons and opens with performances by The Dawgs and The Neighborhoods. Subsequent performers include James Brown, Aimee Mann, Roy Orbison, Iggy Pop, The Ramones, Run DMC, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The club goes bankrupt, reopens as Soiree, an adult-entertainment venue, in the spring of 1993 (1991-WCVB). The building is demolished in the 1990s.
