Boston Computer Society is established.

1977

Founded by 13-year-old Jonathan Rotenberg and Richard Gardner, it begins as a school club to educate the public about personal computers. By the early 1990s, its membership grows to more than 30,000 including Bill Gates and Mitch Kapor. The organization hosts the announcements of the creation of Kapor’s Lotus software and later the launching of the Apple Macintosh computer in 1984.* The society’s board votes to disband on September 10, 1996.
