Puppet Free Library is established.

Originally the Back Alley Puppet Theatre and then the Puppeteers’ Cooperative, it is founded by George Konnoff and Sara Peattie and located in the basement of the Emmanuel Church Parish House at 17 Newbury Street. Created to for Boston’s first First Night celebration, it becomes a free service that provides puppets for events, parties and schools. “I sometimes think my life’s work is scaring children,” said Peattie, who continues to operate it today.
