Gunshots are fired at the Boston Globe headquarters.

October 7, 1974

Just after midnight, shots from across Morrissey Boulevard strike the newspaper’s lobby and press room. The following night, seven more shots are fired at the building from the Southeast Expressway. An associate of South Boston gangster James “Whitey” Bulger, displeased by the newspaper’s coverage of the antibusing movement, admits that he fired the shots in 2001.
