Andre the Seal makes the first of his annual trips from Boston to Maine.

April 30, 1974

(Spring) Abandoned by his mother in 1961, the seal was found, raised, and trained by Harry Goodridge in Rockport, Maine. Goodridge allows the New England Aquarium to care for and exhibit Andre during the winter in 1973, but removes him from the aquarium and releases him in Marblehead Harbor in the spring of 1974. Four days later, the seal makes his way back to Rockport Harbor, completing the first what become annual trips. Andre dies in Maine in 1986 and is buried in Rockport.
