Boston Bruins win the Stanley Cup in New York City.

May 11, 1972

The Bruins beat the New Rangers 3-0 at Madison Square Garden in game 6 to win their fifth NHL title. In the celebration at City Hall a few days later, Mayor Kevin White douses Johnny “Pie” McKenzie with beer, getting revenge for McKenzie pouring a beer over White’s head at a similar celebration two years earlier. It is the team’s second Stanley Cup in three years, and last until 2011.*
