Two security guards are shot and killed during a robbery outside a Dorchester grocery store.

Harry Jeffreys and Calvin Thorne are killed outside Freedom Foods Supermarket at 80 Talbot Avenue. Two men are convicted of the crime and sent to prison. One, Ramadan Shabazz, is a drug-addicted Vietnam veteran suffering from PTSD. Shabazz goes on to earns two college, tutor other inmates, and mentor young people, expressing his sorrow to the his victim’s families. His life sentence is commuted by the Governor’s Council in 2022 and he is freed after 51 years in prison on March 15, 2023.
