Of Boston’s 641,071 residents, 104,685 (16.3%) are African-American.

The number is more than 2 1/2 times that of 1950. Most live in Roxbury and the South End, as well as Dorchester. Many are new residents who moved to Boston from the rural South. The total includes an increasing number of Haitian immigrants.
