Robert Drinan, S.J., is elected to represent the Third Congressional District.

The Dean of Boston College Law School, Drinan (D) is the first Catholic priest elected to the United States Congress. He is reelected through 1980, but is forced to give up his seat after Pope John Paul II decrees that priests should not hold elective office in 1981.
