Joe Six-Pack term is introduced.

August 28, 1970

Boston Globe columnist Marty Nolan employs it in a column entitled “After the soul of Joe Six-Pack.” He makes the first use of the term to describe blue collar residents of Boston neighborhoods, and attributes it to “one of the area’s livelier political informants.” Nolan subsequently reveals that the person who came up with the term had threatened to sue him if he revealed his identity.
