Board of Rent Appeals holds its first hearing.

March 16, 1970

Chaired by Joseph Smith, the board meets in City Hall before a crowd of more than 100 people, most of them tenants. Its first case involves Anita Bromberg, a Brighton tenant activist, who appeals her eviction notice for refusing to pay a significant rent increase. The board denies the landlord’s request to increase the rent and evict Bromberg on March 25, 1970.
