Walk For Hunger is first held.

1969

Organized by activists at the Paulist Center, it inspired by Robert Kennedy’s tour of Appalachia and takes place initially in Quincy. The oldest continuing charity pledge walk in the U.S., it raises money to feed hungry families in Massachusetts. The walk is subsequently sponsored by Project Bread along a 20-mile route that runs from Boston Common down Beacon Street to Newton and then back along the Charles River.
