Peoples Elected Urban Renewal Committee election is held.

June 28, 1969

The “unofficial” election is held at the Tremont Street Methodist Episcopal Church through July 3, 1969. All South End residents 16 and over are eligible to vote and 3,141 people elect a committee of 42 members (15 white, 23 black, 4 Spanish-speaking of whom 7 were homeowners and 35 were tenants). PEURC’s first action is to send out letters to South End residents urging them not to take part in the “official” election a month later.
