BURP program prompts demonstration by minority workers.

November 9, 1967

A day after being laid off, 64 African-American workers and their supporters demonstrate at one of the Boston Rehabilitation Urban Program sites. The workers, who had been replaced with workers from Canada, and their supporters threaten to shut the project down if they are not rehired. Afterwards, at a meeting at Freedom House, a list of grievances is drawn up. Most of the laid-off workers are subsequently re-hired.
