Madison Park Community Development Corporation is established.

May 31, 1966

(May) Originally the Lower Roxbury Community Development Corporation, it is formed at a meeting at 25 Whittier Street. One of the first community development corporations in the city, it is created by four neighborhood groups in response to the Boston Redevelopment Authority’s proposal to take 57 acres in Lower Roxbury to build a campus high school. Ralph Smith is the first executive director. The group goes on to build 546 units of affordable housing in the 1970s and 1980s that are currently undergoing renovation.
