State Street Bank Building is dedicated.
April 27, 1966
(Spring) Architect: Frederick Stahl & Associates. With Hugh Stubbins & Associates and Le Messurier & Associates. Designed in the Brutalist style, it is located on the former site of the Thomas Handasyd Perkins house at 225 Franklin Street. It is the second tallest building in the city at this time. It is also the first new privately-financed office building in Boston since the 1930s and had to be financed by British investors when no local investors could be found. The company subsequently becomes State Street Corp. and moves to a new building on Lincoln Street in 2003.* The State Street Bank sign atop the Franklin Street building is dismantled and a new one dedicated on the Lincoln Street building in 2005.
