Charlestown residents seek to secede from Boston.

Some 350 residents, who are opposed to the proposed Charlestown urban renewal plan, present a petition to the Massachusetts legislature asking to “dissolve the ties between the City of Boston and the District of Charlestown and to authorize the citizens of Charlestown to form a government completely independent of the City.”
