Boston Branch NAACP sues the Boston School Committee.

Filed on behalf of 57 Boston schoolchildren, the civil suit in U.S. district court charges African-American students in the Boston public schools are being deprived of their right to an equal education. It also charges that the Boston School Committee and School Supt. William Ohrenberger with establishing and perpetuating a racially segregated schools system. Although the suit does not subsequently proceed, another suit filed in 1972.*
