Heavyweight championship fight is scheduled for Boston Garden.
November 16, 1964
The bout between Sonny Liston and Cassius Clay is canceled, however, due to objections by Suffolk District Attorney Garret Byrne over relationship involving the fight’s promoters. Instead, it is moved to Lewiston, Maine, where Clay (later Muhammad Ali) beats Liston on a controversial first-round knock-out to retain the heavyweight boxing championship at the Central Maine Youth Center on May 25, 1965.
