Liberty Market opens.

Operated by Sal Lombardo in the former Woolworth Building on Porter Street, the grocery store moves across the street to 220 Porter Street. Lombardo’s restaurant opens next door in 1963 and goes on to become a popular venue for family, neighborhood, and civic functions. The restaurant closes on July 15, 2000. Another Lombardo’s Restaurant continues today in Randolph.
