Anthony’s Pier 4 opens.
1963
Operated by Albanian immigrant Anthony Athanas, it is located at 140 Northern Avenue. The fifth restaurant opened by Athanas and first in Boston, it becomes one of the most successful in the country. Its patrons include all the leading figures in the world of Boston politics, business, law, and sports, as well as such visiting dignitaries and celebrities as Johnny Carson, Frank Sinatra, and Elizabeth Taylor. After Athanas’ death in 2005, the restaurant continues to be run by his four sons. It closes on July 31, 2013. The building is demolished in April 2016 to make way for a development that is built in 2018.*
