Black Ministerial Alliance is formed

Created to involve black clergy in civil rights efforts, the alliance subsequently attempts to elect one of its members, Rev. Gilbert Caldwell, president of the Boston Branch NAACP. Caldwell’s election is disallowed, however, when the organization declares its members were not NAACP members for long enough to be eligible to vote in the election.
