Red Sox lose 13-3 to the Yankees in New York City.
July 26, 1962
After the game at Yankee Stadium, pitcher Gene Conley and infielder Pumpsie Green leave the team bus, which is stuck in traffic, and go to a bar for more than a few beers. Although Green rejoins the team the next day, Conley takes a cab to Idlewild Airport ad tries to buy for Israel, but is turned away because he has no passport, and does not rejoin the team until three days later. According to Conley, he is then summoned to the team owner’s office and offered a beer, but responds, “No way, Mr. Yawkey. I don’t touch that stuff.”
