Pine Street Inn is established.

1961

Founded by Paul Sullivan and others, it is located initially at 8 Pine Street in the former Rufus Dawes Hotel. A refuge for the indigent, alcoholic, and homeless, it assumes its current name in 1969. Paul Sullivan is the first director and is succeeded by Richard Ring in 1983. The shelter moves to the former Boston Fire Department headquarters (second) at 444 Harrison Avenue in 1978, it subsequently also provides transitional and permanent housing for the formerly homeless.
