Jet crashes during takeoff at Logan Airport.
October 4, 1960
After striking a flock of starlings, Eastern Airlines Flight 375 crashes into Winthrop Bay, killing 62 of the 72 people aboard the plane. The most deadly airline disaster in New England history up to this time, it is still the most deadly crash in U.S. history caused by birds. The accident prompts new federal regulations for preventing birds and wildlife from interfering with airplane take-offs and landings.
