New Whitney Street Urban Renewal Plan public hearing his held.

April 30, 1959

(April) Some 1,000 Mission Hill residents attend a Boston City Council public hearing on the plan. It covers 7.5 acres, calls for the construction of three high-rise apartment buildings with some 700 units of housing, and displacing some 291 families (700). Residents subsequently form the Mission United Neighborhood Improvement Team, but it fails to prevent or alter the plan, which begins to be implemented in 1962.*
