Ma (Yo Yo) arrives is born in Paris.

The son of musician parents, Yo Yo Maand moves with them to New York City, takes up the cello, comes to the attention of Pablo Casals and Isaac Stern, and studies at the Julliard School of Music. He attends Columbia University, then Harvard, and settles in Winchester. A regular performer with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and at Tanglewood, Ma becomes one of the great cellist of all time and one of the most adventurous and popular musicians of the twentieth century.
