Operated by George Wein, it is located initially in the Copley Square Hotel and opens with a performance by the Bob Wilber and his Band. Subsequent performers include Louis Armstrong, Count Basie, Sidney Bechet, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Erroll Garner, Stan Getz, Dizzie Gillespie, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan, Charlie Parker, Pee Wee Russell, George Shearing, Nina Simone, and Sarah Vaughn. The club operates at various summer locations, moves to the Hotel Buckminster in February 1951, then back to the Copley Square Hotel in September 1953. It closes with a performance by Dinah Washington in May 1960. It is resurrected briefly under different ownership in the Theater District in September 1960 and then in September 2011.
