Mid-Century Boston Jubilee is held.

Sponsored by the city of Boston and the business community, the four-day celebration is created as a sort of morale-builder for the city. Events include concerts at the Hatch Shell, Parkman Bandstand, Boston Garden and Boston’s first outdoor jazz festival on Boston Common on May 20, 1950. More than 300,000 gather on the Esplanade for band concerts and fireworks on May 21, 1950.
