Gorman (Mike) is born in Dorchester.

The son of an insurance agent and secretary, Mike Gorman graduates from Boston Latin School and Boston State College, and serves as a pilot in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1975. He becomes a radio announcer at WNBH in New Bedford, and WPRO and WPRI in Providence, then play-by-play announcer for the Boston Celtics from 1981 to 2024 (39 of those years with color commentator Tom Heinsohn). His last regular season broadcast is on April 14, 2024, which is proclaimed “Mike Gorman Day” in Boston.
