The NBC affiliate broadcasts initially from a fifth-floor studio in the Hotel Bradford. The first commercial television station in New England, its first programming is 15 minutes of news read by Arch MacDonald at 6:15 p.m. That is followed by a filmed message of congratulations from Catholic, Protestant and Jewish clergy, and a broadcast of the Kraft Television Theatre, which is watched by an estimated 100,000 viewers. The station moves to a new studio for both its radio and television operations later in the year.*
