Winston Flowers is established.
1944
Founded by Robert Winston, it is located at 131 Newbury Street. The company is subsequently expanded by Winston’s son, Maynard, and becomes the first florist in the U.S. to import flowers directly from Europe, including new varieties of freesia, lilac, and tulips flown in from Holland. In addition to its original location, the company currently has six other shops in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York City, and is now run by Robert Winston and Ted Winston, the third generation of the family.
