(Sept.) Coakley is removed after being found guilty by the Massachusetts Senate for selling pardons, including one to New England organized crime leader Raymond L.S. Patriarca. He becomes the first official to be impeached from state and local government in three centuries, and he is subsequently banned from ever holding public office again.
