Campano (Jim) is born in the West End.

1940

The son of Lithuanian immigrants Frank and Mary (Mikonis) Campano, Jim Campano grows up at 32 Poplar Street, fights unsuccessfully against urban renewal, and is forced to move to Somerville in 1959. He marries Kathleen Hennigan, works in a factory, as a news dealer, and serves as a cable television host, and becomes a longtime crusader to preserve the memory of his former neighborhood. He founds the West Ender magazine in 1985, serves as president of the Old West End Housing Corporation, and co-founds the West End Museum in 2004.* Campano dies in the West End on May 20, 2023.
