Walter Gropius arrives in Boston.

(March) A German architect who had helped launch the Bauhaus movement in 1919, he emigrates to the U.S. to teach at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, moves to a new house of his own design in Lincoln in 1938, and founds an architectural practice in 1965.*
